Modular, lightweight and easy-to-use unit set to reduce vehicle deep clean times by more than 50% and provide safe, pathogen-free environment
Bioquell (www.bioquell.com) – one of the leading global experts in reducing the risk of bio-contamination in the healthcare, life science and pharmaceutical markets – has donated an automated BQ-50 decontamination system to BUMBLEance – The Children’s National Ambulance Service
The modular, lightweight and easy-to-use BQ-50 system, which utilises Bioquell’s Hydrogen Peroxide Vapour, is set to reduce deep clean times by more than 50% for all eight of the charity’s state-of-the-art BUMBLEances. It will help ensure a safe, pathogen-free environment for children with depressed immune systems, cancer, chronic illnesses and life limiting / rare conditions.
Optimised for emergency medical services (EMS), Bioquell’s 35% Hydrogen Peroxide solution, an EPA sterilant, is vaporised to kill over 99.9999% of germs. The HP Vapour will cover every exposed square inch of the BUMBLEance and safely disinfects tough to clean equipment, sensitive electronics, stretchers and more. The vehicle is left pathogen-free.
Tony Heffernan, Founder and CEO of The Saoirse Foundation which established BUMBLEance comments: “Our BUMBLEances carry children with extremely low immune systems who are a significant contamination risk. It is vital our vehicles are properly cleaned and disinfected to ensure they do not get an infection from potentially fatal pathogens that can survive weeks on surfaces.”
He adds: “Before Bioquell’s kind donation of a BQ-50 system, it would take some nine hours, including two hours preparation time, to deep clean each BUMBLEance. This will be reduced to just three hours using the BQ-50 which enables our vehicles to remain operational for longer periods, and further strengthens hygiene standards.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bioquell for helping us to more easily and effectively provide the cleanest environment for both patients and staff,” Tony concludes.
BUMBLEance’s fleet comprises specialist vehicles for critical care and blue light or children that might need medical intervention. Driver only options are also available.
BUMBLEance is part of The Saoirse Foundation, a registered non-profit charity dedicated to making positive life impacts for sick children. The charity was founded by Tony and Mary Heffernan in 2007 after their daughter, Saoirse, was diagnosed with Batten Disease – a rare and fatal neurological condition. www.saoirsefoundation.com
When the Heffernan’s son, Liam, was also diagnosed with Batten Disease, Tony and Mary decided to expand the charity’s remit to include children suffering from cancer, chronic illnesses or life-limiting conditions
BUMBLEance, The Children’s National Ambulance Service, was the Saoirse Foundation’s second project. Liam had the distinction of being the first ever child on board a BUMBLEance. In 2014, Liam travelled home on board BUMBLEance from hospital for the last time on his Angel Trip. www.bumbleance.com
